How to Restore Your Water Filter Pressure
If your reverse osmosis system is producing low flow, re-pressurising the storage tank is a simple fix you can do at home in under 5 minutes.
What you'll need
Kapha's tank pressure pump, or any standard bicycle tyre pump.
Step 1 — Turn off the water supply
Turn off the cold water supply to your filter at the feed water valve. This stops water from entering the system while you work.
Step 2 — Drain the tank
Open your filtered water faucet and allow the tank to drain completely. This will take a couple of minutes. You can collect the water if you'd like to avoid waste. Keep the faucet open throughout the following steps.
Step 3 — Locate the air valve
Find the air valve at the base of your storage tank. It is a Schrader valve — the same type found on a car or bicycle tyre — and sits beneath a small black screw cap.
Step 4 — Connect your pump
Unscrew the black cap and attach your pump to the valve.
Step 5 — Re-pressurise the tank
Pump slowly while watching your faucet. As air pressure builds, water will continue to flow out. Keep pumping until no more water comes out and the tank is completely empty.
Note: if water leaks from the air valve at any point during this process, the internal bladder has ruptured and the storage tank will need to be replaced. Please reach out to our team and we will assist you.
Step 6 — Disconnect and replace the cap
Unscrew the pump and replace the black cap onto the valve, tightening it by hand. Return the tank to its upright position in your cabinet.
Step 7 — Close the faucet
Turn off your filtered water faucet.
Step 8 — Restore the water supply
Turn the cold water supply back on at the feed water valve.
Step 9 — Wait for the tank to refill
Allow 30 to 45 minutes for the tank to refill completely. Once refilled, your system will operate at full capacity with restored water pressure and flow.
